Surfactants for Agrochemical. Agrochemical or agrichemical, a contraction of agricultural chemical, is a generic term for the various chemical products used in agriculture. In most cases, agrichemical refers to the broad range of pesticides, including insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and nematicides.   While currently available titles either focus on the basics or on very specific subtopics, this text meets the need for a comprehensive survey of surfactants and their properties, with a strong emphasis on applications and their correlation to the fundamentals. The author covers their classification, physical properties, phase behavior, adsorption, effects - such as wetting, spreading and Author: Tharwat F. Tadros.

In Studies in Interface Science, Surfactants as wetting agents. The potential effect of the common pharmaceutical wetting agent SLS, on the transport of the hydrophilic bisphosphonate, tiludronate, was investigated. It was revealed that SLS increased tiludronate Para cellular transport through its specific and transient effect on the permeability of the intercellular space []. Surfactants are surface active agents, molecules that have a significant role in emulsions, suspensions, and foams. They find widespread application in personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and the food industry. Their classification, physical properties, phase behavior, their effects and applications are covered in this book.

Pesticide efficacy is improved by surfactants. Increase in the foliar uptake is particularly useful for herbicides, growth regulators and defoliants, because less active compounds are needed, thus decreasing cost and pollution. Therefore, the choice of the adjuvant in an agrochemical formulation is crucial.

Surfactants are compounds that lower the surface tension (or interfacial tension) between two liquids, between a gas and a liquid, or between a liquid and a solid. Surfactants may act as detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, foaming agents, and dispersants.

The word surfactant is a blend of surface-active agent. Agents that increase surface tension are surface active in the literal sense. Agrochemical Adjuvants Guide. The role of surfactants in agrochemical formulations is discussed, and the physical chemistry of surfactant solutions summarized (particularly micellization, and the formation of spherical, rod-shaped and lamellar systems).
